FISH COUNTS 2012

The latest available fish count figures supplied by the Environment Agency for our two major rivers are:

The continuing funding issues encountered by the Agency indicate that there will be no reinstatment of the Coquet fish counters in the foreseeable future. Accordingly, the Coquet has been removed from this year's table.

FISH COUNTS 2011

The latest available fish count figures supplied by the Environment Agency for our three major rivers are:

*River Tyne is only a partial count The counter broke down on 16th and only became fully functional on the 28th January 2011.

03JULY

Information regarding the River Coquet as to whether or not any repairs/replacements are to carried out in 2011/12 is still not available. Latest details from the EA is that due to a lack of funding no figures will be available for the Coquet for the foreseeable future.

FISH COUNTS 2010

The latest available fish count figures supplied by the Environment Agency for our three major rivers are:

19 JULY

 No figures are available for the Coquet. Figures for July on the Wear are up to the 14th July.

FISH COUNTS 2009

08 November 2009  

It is not expected to have any fish count figures for the River Coquet in 2009.

Coquet Fish Counters  News Update January 2009

Due to difficulties experienced during the exceptional flooding of September 2008, the Coquet fish counters are currently supplying limited data. One of the counters was destroyed during the flood event and the other is providing only a partial count. As a result we are currently not posting the fish counts for the River Coquet until both counters are fully operational again. This is likely to be around March 2009.

FISH COUNTS 2008

29 December 2008

There would appear to have been major problems with the fish counters on the rivers Coquet and Wear. The previously reported counts for August (Coquet and Wear), September and October (Wear) no longer appear on the EA tables. The River Tyne counters do not appear to have been affected.

To Date no counts for the Coquet or the Wear have been supplied by the Agency for this year.

FISH COUNTS 2007

        * Wear counter out of service from 22 June to 26 July 2007 so those figures represent part months totals

SOUTH PASS UPDATE, 3rd JANUARY 2008: from the Environment Agency re Coquet Counters.

Recent high river flows have caused substantial damage to our fish counting ramp and electrodes at the south pass at Warkworth on the Coquet. As a result, the fish counter for the south pass is not currently recording fish passage.We are arranging removal of the debris to ensure free passage for migratory fish and will replace the counting ramp and electrodes as soon as possible. We will post an update on this page when the works have been completed. In the meantime, fish counts for the north pass remain unaffected, and will be posted as soon as available.
23 September The latest figures up until 31 August.

19August The figures for June and July for the Tyne and Coquet are now to hand. There are no figures for the Wear. Rumour hath it that the Framwellgate counter is again out of service but no official explanation has been obtained.
